A Celebration of One Hundred Years of South Dakota High School Activities and Athletics

For the past century the South Dakota High School Activities Association has coordinated South Dakota high school athletic and fine arts events. The Association was organized initially to govern the first state high school track meet in 1906. This initial effort has expanded to the present the supervision of seven varsity boys' sports, seven varsity girls' sports, and four fine arts activities. A Celebration of One Hundred Years of South Dakota High School Athletics and Activities showcases the one hundred years of organized high school athletics and fine arts activities in South Dakota high schools. This text is of immeasurable value as a reference tool that can be utilized for years to come. A Celebration contains essential documentation for each of the sports and activities.

The History of Independent Baseball Leagues, 1993-2002

Independent baseball has been an important aspect of professional baseball for over a century. This history attempts to document the development of this phenomenon during the past decade. We have included all available statistics. Both Miles Wolff and myself decided early in our involvement in the rise of this new era of independent baseball to collect and preserve the available statistical records and narratives which document the formal activities of each attempt at creating new independent teams and leagues. Our narrative presents basic documentation of every independent league attempted. This practice has been carried out by publishers of baseball material for the past century. We believe the text fulfills this essential historical documentation.

Baseball in the Bad Lands: Stale Beers and Stale Careers

"David Gilbertson, in his first book, has captured with an honest and sincere liking the phenomenon of the Prairie of Professional Baseball. It disbanded after only three seasons, but it was fun while it lasted. Gilbertson's work captures the humor and sadness that engulfs every minor league town. From the disgusting apartment of four single minor leaguers to the fruitless marketing ventures, Gilbertson tells it like it is." —Mark Derewicz, Baseball America
